Cross the River Ouse and after a few yards, go left for the railway station and a train back to Southease. At the bottom of the hill, go over a stile and follow a path along the floor of a quiet downland valley (Oxteddle Bottom). Walk through the field, continuing up, and under the telephone pylons. My favourite part of the walk was the second half, so If you dont want to do the full 14.6 miles, you can cut out the first 7 miles and start from the main road (A27) which is the halfway mark. There is a slightly shorter walking route from Lewes to Southease, but I did this one in a C shape in order to pick up the South Downs trail where I left off. Clockwise (directions on pages 6-9 of the pdf) leaves the longest section, Lewes to Southease, till last, and you face a long slow climb up to the highest point on the walk as part of this.
